Miss Universe Australia 2019 Event

On the 20th of June 2019, twenty-eight incredible young women travelled to the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins to compete in the finals of Miss Universe Australia proudly sponsored by Minespec Parts. Do you wonder what Minespec Parts and Miss Universe Australia have in common and how we align as the presenting sponsor of this program? It’s all about selling, confidence, presentation, quality control, trial and error. So whilst our industries are contrasting in many ways, it is important to recognise the common qualities that we share. Simon Ross has been more than just a sponsor as he remains heavily involved in the program in 2019 as a judge, mentoring where he can,  and also ensuring the presence of our Minespec Parts Ambassador Jasmine Stringer who is a former Miss Universe Australia finalist, to guide and support the contestants at the many official events throughout the competition.

This year the contestants were not only competing for the crown and title, but they were also in the running to win the $20,000 Minespec Parts Business Start Up/Education Grant. Many contestants expressed that this Education/Business Start Up Grant played a significant role in their decision to enter Miss Universe Australia. We are here to support women in business, gender equality in the workplace, establish relationships and create awareness of the amazing industry of mining by growing our global audience. After an intense week of rehearsals, personal and professional development workshops, interviews and the preliminary judging runway show, the contestants were put to the test on the National Final stage where they had the opportunity to show off their hard work. They looked amazing in their Bondi Born swimwear and wowed the audience with their elegance and poise during the evening gown section.

The judges, including our very own Minespec Parts Managing Director Simon Ross, had the extremely difficult task of selecting the Top 10. The Top 10 Contestants were thrown immediately into the infamous ‘question and answer’ round. This year, the questions were more difficult and controversial than ever before and will be aired on television later this year.

Finally, the Top 5 were announced and they answered their ‘Final Word’ question. Both question and answer sections were extremely impressive and made us very proud to be supporting a group of such empowered, diverse and intelligent young women.

We would like to wish huge congratulations to all of the National Finalists and to our new Miss Universe Australia 2019 Priya Serrao. Priya is a law graduate working as a policy adviser and her proudest achievement is completing an internship with the United Nations Development Program in East Timor. We look forward to supporting Priya as she prepares to represent Australia at the Miss Universe 2019 competition.

Keep an eye out for the TV Special ‘The Road to Miss Universe Australia’ where you will get a glimpse of what it means to be a part of the Miss Universe Australia program.  Minespec Parts are very proud to be the presenting sponsor of Miss Universe Australia 2019 and look forward to supporting the 2020 program.
